Caio Terra

Caio Terra, born on February 8, 1986, is a renowned Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu (BJJ) competitor and world champion. He began training in 2003 and earned his black belt in 2006, achieving one of the fastest promotions in BJJ history. His promotion occurred during the year the IBJJF implemented minimum time frames for each belt, requiring brown belts to compete for at least a year before advancing. As a result, Terra was initially barred from competing at the 2007 Brazilian Nationals but was later allowed to compete in the World Championship that year. Terra is known for his philosophy "Technique Conquers All," which he has validated through numerous victories in open weight divisions. He owns and trains at the Caio Terra Academy in San Jose, California, and operates an online instructional platform, Caio Terra Online, offering technical insights to subscribers and affiliate academies. In 2017, Terra retired from No Gi competition to focus on developing his team, mentoring notable athletes such as Mikey Musumeci, Mason Fowler, and Yuri Simoes. During the COVID-19 pandemic, his academy faced closure due to potential fines for operating during lockdowns. In 2020, he received his 4th-degree black belt from Master Paulo Mauricio Strauch. His instructor lineage traces back to Mitsuyo Maeda, Carlos Gracie, Reyson Gracie, and Paulo Mauricio Strauch.
