Gerald Trump

Gerald Trump, born on August 10, 1937, in Taunton, is an English cricketer, schoolmaster, and founder of Edington School (later Shapwick School). A medium-pace seam bowler, he opened the bowling for Devon and Somerset's second XI between 1958 and 1977. Trump captained Devon from 1970 to 1972. Trump attended Priory Secondary Modern in Taunton and later studied physical education at St Luke's College, Exeter. After graduating, he taught P.E. at his alma mater before moving to Millfield School as an assistant master of remedial English. In 1960, he married Jacqueline Betty at St Andrew's Church, Taunton. Their son, Harvey, played cricket for Somerset in over 200 top-level matches between 1988 and 1997. Trump joined Taunton Cricket Club at age 14 and represented Somerset Schools and Colts as a junior. In 1957, he was part of the RAF team that won the inter-command championship. He made his Minor Counties Championship debut for Devon in 1958 against Cornwall and was awarded his county cap later that season. Trump played one season for Somerset's second XI in 1962 before returning to Devon. In 1968, he joined Morlands Cricket Club while working at Millfield School. From 1970 to 1972, he captained Devon and served on the Minor Counties selection committee. He played for Somerset's second XI again from 1975 to 1977.
