Henriette Henriot

Henriette Henriot (1857–1944), born Marie Henriette Alphonsine Grossin, was a French actress and model, best known for her work with the artist Pierre-Auguste Renoir. From 1874 to 1876, she modeled for several of Renoir's paintings, including *La Parisienne*, *La Source*, *The Lovers*, *The Page*, and *La Promenade*. During this time, she also began her acting career, performing in minor roles at theaters such as the Théâtre de l'Odéon and the Théâtre Libre. She used stage names including Henriette Henriot, Mademoiselle Henriot, and Madame Henriot.

Henriot's modeling relationship with Renoir was significant; she appeared in five major full-length works and several smaller pieces during their collaboration. Renoir also painted her daughter, Jeanne Angèle Grossin (1878–1900), who died in a theater fire at the age of 21. It is unclear if Henriot was paid for her modeling, but Renoir gifted her two paintings, including his final portrait of her, *A Vase of Flowers*. The two developed a close friendship during their time together.

Henriot's acting career spanned multiple decades and included roles in plays such as *Le Fils du Diable* (1875), *La Famille d'Armelles* (1883), *Sganarelle* (1883), and *Monsieur Brotonneau* (1914). Her performances were primarily in Parisian theaters, showcasing her versatility as an actress. Henriot's legacy is intertwined with both her contributions to French theater and her role as a muse for Renoir during his impressionist period.
