Jacob Jaacks
Jacob Brian Jaacks, known as Jacob Crane after a divorce, was born on April 24, 1977, in Iowa and played professional basketball. Standing at 6 ft 10 in (2.08 m) and weighing 260 pounds (113 kg), he primarily played as a power forward/center. Jaacks began his high school career at Ankeny High School but did not make the varsity team during his freshman and sophomore years. After moving to Cedar Rapids, he attended Cedar Rapids Jefferson High School and was named to the Mississippi Valley Conference team in his senior year, leading his team to the state finals, where they lost. He accepted a scholarship to play at the University of South Dakota under coach Dave Boots but red-shirted his freshman year due to physical size limitations. He earned recognition on the All-NCC freshman team and later transferred to Marshalltown Community College, where he was named a JUCO All-American. His team achieved a 29–5 record and lost to the national champions. Jaacks was recruited by several Division I universities and chose the University of Iowa under coach Tom Davis. During his time there, the team had mixed success, including a Sweet 16 appearance against the University of Connecticut. In his senior year under coach Steve Alford, he averaged 12.2 points and 7.3 rebounds per game. After college, he signed with the Toronto Raptors but was released during the preseason.
