North Carolina Highway 41

North Carolina Highway 41 (NC 41) is a primary state highway in North Carolina that runs north-south from the South Carolina state line to Lumberton before switching to an east-west orientation, connecting cities like Elizabethtown, White Lake, Harrells, Wallace, Beulaville, and Trenton. Established in 1929, the highway initially ran from Wallace to Tin City, with subsequent extensions westward by 1930 and 1933, reaching White Lake by 1933. By 1935, NC 41 was extended to the South Carolina state line, replacing parts of NC 70 and NC 201, creating a paved route from the state line to White Lake.

Over the years, segments were gradually paved, with the entire highway fully paved by 1951. Reroutings occurred in 1952 near Harrells, with part of the former route becoming NC 411, and again in 1961 near Dublin to bypass the town. In 1970, a realignment in Tin City removed a short concurrency with NC 11. Further reroutings happened in Elizabethtown in 1998 and 2015, though the 1998 change was reversed shortly after due to signage issues.

In Lumberton, NC 41 was realigned in 2006 to run concurrently with NC 72 and NC 211. A section of NC 41 near White Lake is concurrent with North Carolina Bicycle Route 5, from Sweet Home Church Road to NC 55. These changes reflect the highway's evolution over decades to improve routing and connectivity across eastern North Carolina.
