Peter Wessels

Peter Wessels, born on 7 May 1978, is a former professional tennis player and current coach from the Netherlands. He reached a career-high singles ranking of world No. 72 in February 2005. As a junior, he was ranked No. 5 in singles and No. 18 in doubles in 1995, reaching the semifinals at Wimbledon and US Open juniors that year. He also won the Roland Garros junior doubles title with Raemon Sluiter.

Wessels' best professional result was winning the 2000 ATP tournament in Newport, defeating Jens Knippschild in the final. In 2006, he qualified for the Hopman Cup with Michaëlla Krajicek, reaching the final but losing to Taylor Dent and Lisa Raymond. He won four of his five singles matches at the event and had a 3–2 record in mixed doubles.

In June 2007, Wessels, ranked 488, caused an upset by defeating top seed Tommy Robredo in the quarterfinals of the Ordina Open, eventually reaching the final where he lost to Ivan Ljubičić. Since 2024, he has been coaching Sorana Cirstea.

Wessels' career includes two ATP singles finals (1 title, 1 runner-up), 17 Challenger and ITF Futures singles finals (8-9 record), and 12 doubles finals (5-7). He also won one junior Grand Slam doubles title and was a finalist in another.
