Qulin Missouri
Qulin, located in Butler County, Southeast Missouri, had a population of 460 according to the 2020 census. It is part of the Poplar Bluff Metropolitan Statistical Area and lies at the intersection of Missouri Routes 51 and 53, near the Black River and St. Francis River. The city has an area of 0.45 square miles (1.17 km²) and a flat terrain.
Historically, Qulin was established with a post office in 1881, though its name's origin remains unclear. Reader’s Digest labeled it the "most difficult to pronounce" place name in Missouri.
Demographically, as of the 2010 census, the city had a population density of 1,017.8 inhabitants per square mile and a diverse age distribution. The median age was 44 years, with significant percentages of residents under 18 and over 65. Households varied, including married couples, single parents, and non-family units.
In the 2000 census, Qulin had a slightly higher population (467) and similar demographic patterns, though median income was lower at $15,714 for households and $9,594 per capita. Poverty rates were notable, particularly among children and seniors.
The climate is Humid Subtropical (Köppen Cfa), with evenly distributed precipitation and warm temperatures. Education is provided by the Twin Rivers R-X School District, which operates Qulin School and Twin Rivers High School in Broseley.
