Ramakrishna Sarada Mission Vivekananda Vidyabhavan
Ramakrishna Sarada Mission Vivekananda Vidyabhavan Girls' College (RKSMVV) is a partly residential degree college for women affiliated with West Bengal State University. The college was established in 1961 by the Ramakrishna Sarada Mission Association, which was founded in 1960 to promote educational and cultural activities among women and children. The mission operates about 25 centers in India and abroad.
The college began as a modest institution with 31 students and a small team of teachers in a one-room structure. It has since grown into one of the premier women’s educational institutions in West Bengal. The college offers three-year B.A. degree courses in subjects such as Bengali, English, Sanskrit, Education, History, Philosophy, Political Science, Economics, Sociology, Human Rights, Journalism, and Mathematics (for B.Sc.). These courses are recognized by West Bengal State University.
Student life at RKSMVV emphasizes holistic development through a hostel system modeled after the ancient "Gurukul" tradition. Boarders reside in two spacious buildings, Bharati Bhavan and Brahmananda Bhavan, under the supervision of monastic members of the Order. The college also features a library named Sraddhaprana Pathakakshma, established in 1961, which has been modernized to include an online public access catalogue (OPAC) for easy access to resources.
