Ratangarh Bijnor
Ratangarh is a village in Bijnor district, Uttar Pradesh, India, historically known as Atreja. Founded in the early 19th century by Rao Zokha Singh Tyagi Atreja, it was part of the Bijnor Rebellion against British rule in 1857. The village transitioned from zamindari to a more equitable land distribution system post-independence due to land reforms and urban migration.
The population is predominantly Hindu, with significant Jat, Tyagi, and Dalit communities. Festivals like Holi, Diwali, and local traditions such as Bagad and Thada are integral to village culture. The village spans about 4 square kilometers and has fertile soil suitable for agriculture, its primary economic activity.
Key crops include wheat, sugarcane, and fruits like mango and mulberry. Non-agricultural jobs in retail, education, and healthcare also contribute to the economy. Notable residents include Deep Tyagi (family planning administrator), Mahavir Tyagi (independence activist and parliamentarian), and Sanjeev Tyagi (actor). The climate ranges from hot summers to cold winters, with midwinter frost affecting crops. Proximity to the Himalayas makes the climate cooler than other regions, as noted in historical records.
