Royal Windsor Roller Derby

Royal Windsor Roller Derby (RWRD) was a flat-track roller derby league based in Berkshire, England, founded in 2007 as Royal Windsor Roller Girls. It was the first roller derby league in Berkshire and one of the earliest in the UK. The league trained in Ascot and hosted home games at Windsor Leisure Centre. RWRD was a member of the United Kingdom Roller Derby Association (UKRDA) and the Women's Flat Track Derby Association (WFTDA). The team played its last game on November 5, 2023. The league had two travel teams: Who Dares Windsor (A) and The B-Headers (B), as well as two intra-league teams. RWRD was founded in September 2007 with five skaters and one referee but grew to 40 members by April 2010. Their first bout took place in 2009 at Wycombe Sports Centre, attended by over 350 people. The league became a founding member of the UKRDA in 2010 and joined the WFTDA Apprentice Program in July 2011, achieving full membership in June 2012. RWRD competed in the British Roller Derby Championships from 2015 to 2018 and participated in European tournaments like "Slip It" in 2018. They introduced Sur5al, a short-form roller derby format, in 2012, which has since been adopted worldwide. The league won the Community Club of the Year award at the Get Berkshire Active Awards in 2017. In October 2018, they changed their name to Royal Windsor Roller Derby.
