Sowaddi Kalan

Sowaddi Kalan (also spelled Swaddi Khas) is a village in Ludhiana district of Punjab, India. The name "Kalan" means "big" in Persian. As of the 2011 census, it had a population of 4,804 across 954 families, with males (2,586) outnumbering females (2,218). The village has a higher literacy rate than Punjab at 83.21%, with male literacy at 87.69% and female literacy at 78.09%.

The village is governed under the Panchyati Raaj Act by an elected Sarpanch (Head of Village). It has strong transportation links, including bus services to Mullanpur and Jagraon, and is near Ludhiana railway station. Nearby villages include Talwandi Kalan, Majri, Gurah, and Bharowal Kalan.

Sowaddi Kalan features a main market in Chardi Pasa and additional shops in Pashmi Swaddi. Educational institutions include a government primary school, senior secondary school, and the Akal Academy. The village has two banks: State Bank of India (with an ATM) and Corporation Bank.

Known for its Kabaddi Cup, Sowaddi Kalan is associated with Soni sowaddi, a figure linked to the sport's fame in the area.
