USCGC Galveston Island

The USCGC Galveston Island (WPB 1349) is an Island-class patrol boat commissioned on June 5, 1992, and was the last of its class to be built. Initially homeported at Apra Harbor, Guam, it later moved to Honolulu, Hawaii, where it was decommissioned on March 16, 2018. The vessel is expected to be transferred to a foreign government under the Foreign Assistance Act.

The Island-class patrol boats are based on the Vosper Thornycroft design and were constructed at Bollinger Shipyards in Lockport, Louisiana. Galveston Island measures 110 feet (34 meters) in length with a beam of 21 feet (6.4 meters) and a draft of 7 feet (2.1 meters). It has a displacement of 154 tonnes at full load and 137 tonnes at half load. The boat is powered by either two Paxman Valenta 16 CM diesel engines or two Caterpillar 3516 diesel engines, with two 99 kilowatt Caterpillar generators. Its hull is made of steel, while the superstructure and deck are aluminum.

The patrol boat has a maximum speed of 29.5 knots and is equipped with one 25mm machine gun, two 7.62mm M60 light machine guns, and may also carry two Browning .50 Caliber Machine Guns. It features advanced electronics, including satellite navigation, collision avoidance systems, surface radar, and a Loran C system. The vessel has a range of 3,330 miles and an endurance of five days, with a crew of sixteen (two officers and fourteen enlisted members).
