Waging am See

Waging am See, officially known as Waging a. See, is a municipality in the Traunstein district of Bavaria, Germany. It is classified as a climatic spa town and is situated near Lake Waginger See, the warmest lake in Upper Bavaria, with water temperatures reaching up to 27 °C. The town's name ("on the lake") is somewhat misleading because it moved away from the lakeside due to historical changes in the river levels.

Waging am See has a rich history dating back to its mention in a deed from 740. It was part of the Salzburg prince-bishopric until the 19th century, briefly under Austrian rule, and has been part of Bavaria since 1810. After World War II, many expellees settled in the area, and following local government reforms in 1972, it became part of the Traunstein district.

The town's politics are represented by a municipal council with several parties, including the Free Voters (7 seats), CSU (6 seats), Alliance '90/The Greens/Citizens' list (4 seats), and Ödp/Independents (3 seats). The current mayor is Matthias Baderhuber of the CSU.

Waging am See offers a variety of leisure activities around Lake Waginger See, including camping, hiking, fishing, boating, golfing, and winter sports. It is also the starting point for an ancient Bavarian cycling trail and part of the pilgrimage route "Benediktweg." The town features the Bajuwarenmuseum, dedicated to the history of ancient Bavarians.

Notable personalities from Waging am See include Lothar Zagrosek (conductor), Bernhard von Waging (writer and Benedictine), and Alfons Schuhbeck (TV cook).
