Wandsworth Demons

The Wandsworth Demons are an Australian Rules Football club based in Clapham Common, south London, since 1990. They are a founding member of the AFL London competition (formerly the British Australian Rules Football League) and field teams in five divisions: Men's Premiership, Conference, Social, Women's Premiership, and Women's Conference. The club has achieved significant success, with nine premiership flags in the men's division and three titles in the women's league. Founded by Sean Angle and Craig Stephens on 14 February 1990, the club won its inaugural season Grand Final despite being underdogs. A rule requiring 50% of team members to be British has contributed to the success of the Great Britain Bulldogs. The club introduced a second team, the Clapham Demons, in 1998, and by 2001, they fielded three teams. In 2003, Wandsworth expanded into multi-sports, adding netball and basketball teams. Sam Percy, as AFL London President, encouraged clubs to form third teams for the Social grade, which began in 2007. The South London Demons won the first flag. Women's teams were introduced in 2014, with Wandsworth leading by adding a second women's team in 2017, forming the Women's Conference division. In recent years, the club has achieved unprecedented success: winning all three men's competitions in 2023. The senior men have won ten premierships and never missed finals.
