KDYA
KDYA (1190 kHz), known as "Gospel 1190 The Light," is a commercial AM radio station owned by Salem Media Group and licensed to Vallejo, California. It serves the San Francisco Bay Area with an urban gospel format, making it Northern California's only full-time urban gospel station. The station broadcasts at 3,000 watts using a directional antenna but must sign off at sunset due to its clear channel frequency shared with KEX in Portland, Oregon, and XEWK-AM in Guadalajara. Its studios are located in Fremont, while the transmitter site is on Noble Road in Vallejo.
Originally launched as KGYW in 1947, the station later became KNBA in 1958, offering a "middle of the road" format under long-time owner Louis J. Ripa until his death in 1992. The call sign changed to KXBT in December 1993 and then to KDYA on June 1, 1998.
In 1996, KXBT began broadcasting on the expanded AM band at 1640 kHz, later moving to 1630 kHz and back to 1640 kHz by 1997. This expanded band operation was assigned the call sign KDIA in 1998, operating as a separate station with Christian talk and teaching content. Both KDYA and KDIA remained under common ownership, with the FCC allowing them to operate simultaneously beyond initial deadlines.
KDYA previously aired Spanish-language broadcasts of Oakland Athletics games during the day, while KDIA covered night games from 2009 to mid-2010. In June 2021, Salem Media Group acquired KDYA and its sister station KDIA from Baybridge Communications for $600,000.
