Woodston Peterborough
Woodston is a predominantly residential and industrial area located in Peterborough, Cambridgeshire, England. It forms part of Fletton ward in the North West Cambridgeshire constituency. Situated south of the River Nene, Woodston has a complex administrative history. Historically part of Huntingdonshire, it was later divided between Huntingdonshire and the Soke of Peterborough due to population distribution. In 1894, under the Local Government Act, Woodston was split into Woodston Rural (Huntingdonshire) and Woodston Urban (Peterborough). The rural parish became part of Old Fletton Urban District in 1905 and was renamed "Woodston" in 1938. The civil parish was abolished on 1 April 1974.
Ecclesiastically, the area is served by St. Augustine's Church, which dates back to Anglo-Saxon times but is now under the pastoral care of the Bishop of Peterborough. Woodston Cemetery, established in 1882, is no longer accepting new burials.
Woodston has a significant industrial history. Notable companies that have been based there include Hotpoint (now owned by Indesit), British Sugar, SodaStream, Pedigree Petfoods, and Johnston Press. Many of these companies have since closed or relocated, leading to changes in the area's land use, including the construction of new housing on former industrial sites.
The area is well-served by amenities, including Woodston County Primary School, Brewster Avenue Infant School, and St. Augustine's Church of England Junior School. Secondary education is provided at nearby Stanground College and Nene Park Academy.
