INSTRUMENTS is a three-piece music group based in Halifax, NS, Canada. Formed by J. LaPointe, Jon Hutt, and Daniel MacDonald after they reunited in 2001 following their earlier project The Motes (with Craig Thibault), which released six albums between 1994 and 1998. During the hiatus, LaPointe played with North of America, while Hutt focused on his Recyclone project.

Since reforming as INSTRUMENTS, they have released five full-length albums: *Nominal* (2005), *National Laboratory* (2009), *Assembly Room* (2011), *The End of Light by Heat* (2014), and *Spirit Duplicator* (2015). They also released two 12" EPs, including a vinyl re-release of *Nominal*. Their collaborations include work with Triune Gods, Bleubird, Skyrider, Sixtoo, and Graematter. INSTRUMENTS has appeared live sparingly, notably performing with Yamantaka // Sonic Titan in 2012 and Wintersleep in 2014.
