James Emery White is the founding and senior pastor of Mecklenburg Community Church in Charlotte, North Carolina, which has grown from a single family to over 10,000 active attendees. He serves as president of Serious Times, a ministry exploring faith and culture, and hosts ChurchandCulture.org. White is an adjunct professor of theology and culture at Gordon-Conwell Theological Seminary’s Charlotte campus, where he was previously the fourth president. He holds degrees from Appalachian State University (B.S.), Southern Baptist Theological Seminary (M.Div., Ph.D.), with advanced studies at Vanderbilt University and Oxford University.

White has authored over 20 books translated into ten languages, including award-winning titles such as *Embracing the Mysterious God* and *Serious Times*. His recent works include *Christianity for People Who Aren’t Christians*, *Meet Generation Z*, *The Rise of the Nones*, and *What They Didn’t Teach You in Seminary*. He is also a Distinguished Professor of Pastoral Ministry at Anderson University and consulting editor to Leadership Journal.

In November 2009, White signed the Manhattan Declaration, an ecumenical statement urging evangelicals, Catholics, and Orthodox Christians to oppose laws permitting abortion, same-sex marriage, and other issues contradicting religious consciences.
