Crowder Oklahoma

Crowder is a town located in Pittsburg County, Oklahoma, with a population of 430 as of the 2010 census. Originally known as Juanita, the town was named after Juanita Harlan Crowder, the wife of Dr. W.E. Crowder, an early physician. A post office was established under the name Juanita on March 21, 1902, and later renamed Crowder on June 4, 1904, in honor of Dr. Crowder. The town covers a total area of 1.0 square mile (2.6 km²), with 0.04 square miles (0.10 km²) being water, accounting for 2.97% of the area. As per the 2000 census, Crowder had a population of 436 people, comprising 159 households and 127 families. The population density was 446.0 inhabitants per square mile, with 183 housing units averaging 187.2 per square mile. The racial makeup of the town was predominantly White (85.09%), followed by Native American (7.80%), African American (0.92%), Asian (0.46%), and other races contributing the remainder. Hispanic or Latino individuals made up 2.75% of the population. Households in Crowder were diverse, with 41.5% having children under 18, 56.6% being married couples, and 17.0% female-headed households without a husband. Non-family households accounted for 19.5%. The average household size was 2.74, while the average family size was 3.05. The population distribution by age showed 33.0% under 18, 6.0% between 18 and 24, 25.0% from 25 to 44, 23.4% from 45 to 64, and 12.6% aged 65 or older, with a median age of 34 years.
