David Follett cricketer

David Follett (born 14 October 1968) is an English former cricketer who began his county career later in life. Born in Newcastle-under-Lyme, Staffordshire, he made his debut for Staffordshire in 1994 before joining Middlesex in 1995. His first List A and first-class debuts both came in 1995, against Hampshire and Warwickshire respectively. Despite limited appearances in first-class cricket, Follett performed well as a right-arm fast-medium bowler, claiming 24 wickets at an average of 28.50 in his debut season for Middlesex, including best figures of 8/22 against Durham in 1996.

Follett’s form dipped in subsequent seasons due to injuries, and he left Middlesex after the 1996 season. In 1997, he joined Northamptonshire, where he made his debut in the AXA Life League, taking 13 wickets at an average of 19.84. He played 11 first-class matches for Northamptonshire across three seasons, but his injury issues persisted, limiting his appearances. Follett returned to Staffordshire in 2000 and played Minor counties cricket until 2005, making 24 Minor Counties Championship appearances and 9 MCCA Knockout Trophy appearances.

In List A cricket, Follett’s best bowling figures of 4/17 came against Hertfordshire in the 2002 Cheltenham & Gloucester Trophy. His overall performance for Staffordshire in List A cricket was strong, with an average of exactly 14 across 16 wickets.

Follett’s career was marked by consistent injuries and limited opportunities at various clubs, but he remained a capable bowler throughout his professional cricketing journey.
