Dong Hongyun

Dong Hongyun, born in November 1956 in Shanxi province, is a former Chinese politician who joined the Chinese Communist Party in June 1976. He began his political career in January 1982 and held various positions, including Deputy Communist Party Secretary of Xiangning County from May 1986 to March 1990, and later served as Mayor of Lüliang and Communist Party Secretary of Xinzhou. In December 2014, he was investigated by the Central Commission for Discipline Inspection (CCDI) for serious violations of laws and regulations, along with two other Shanxi party chiefs, as part of a broader anti-corruption campaign.

The investigation revealed that Dong had engaged in multiple corrupt activities, including accepting bribes worth over 43.43 million yuan, 6.2 million Hong Kong dollars, 760,000 US dollars, 200,000 euros, and other valuable items. He was also accused of disloyalty to the party, hiding personal information, visiting private clubs, selling offices for cash, interfering in administrative processes, and attempting to obstruct the investigation. On August 7, 2015, Dong was expelled from the Chinese Communist Party and arrested. In December 2017, he was indicted by the Yangquan People's Procuratorate on charges of bribery and illegal asset accumulation, with all his illicit gains confiscated.
