Eaton Hamilton

Eaton Hamilton (born July 19, 1954) is a Canadian short story writer, novelist, essayist, and poet who uses they/their pronouns. They have published the novel *Weekend* (2016), three books of poetry (*Body Rain*, *Steam-Cleaning Love*, and *Love Will Burst into a Thousand Shapes*), a poetry chapbook (*Going Santa Fe*, winner of the League of Canadian Poets Poetry Chapbook Prize), and two volumes of short fiction (*July Nights and Other Stories* and *Hunger*). Under the pseudonym Ellen Prescott, they authored the memoir *No More Hurt*, which was a Sunday Times bestseller. Their work has been shortlisted for numerous awards, including the BC Book Prizes, ReLit Award, VanCity Award, Pat Lowther Award, Ferro-Grumley Award, and MIND Book Prize.

Hamilton’s writing has appeared in publications such as *The New York Times*, *Maclean's*, *Geist*, *Guernica*, and *The Globe and Mail*. They have won multiple awards for their short work, including two first prizes in the CBC Literary Awards (2003 and 2014), the 2015 Lit Pop Prize judged by George Saunders, and two first prizes in the Prism International Short Story Award. Their essays and stories have been noted in *Best American Essays* and *Best American Short Stories*. Hamilton was also a litigant in the Canadian same-sex marriage case from 2000 to 2003 and has volunteered for the organization Now I Lay Me Down to Sleep.
