Kre istein Hansen

Kåre Øistein Hansen (November 8, 1927 – May 6, 2012) was a Norwegian politician for the Socialist Left Party. He served in the Parliament of Norway from 1973 to 1977, representing Buskerud, and was a member of the Standing Committee on Finance and Economic Affairs. Born in Drammen, Buskerud, he was the son of Harald Bernhard Hansen, a municipal social welfare officer, and Gudrun Hansen. His education was interrupted in 1942 when his father joined Nasjonal Samling (NS), leading Kåre to enroll in the NS Youth Association and later join the German Ski Hunter Battalion in 1944. After World War II, he was arrested, sentenced to imprisonment for treason and complicity in murder, and served time as a minor. Following his release, Hansen worked as a repairman and mechanic from 1948 to 1978. He became involved in trade union activities, leading the local Iron and Metal Workers' Union for 12 years. In 1971, he was elected to the local council in Drammen and the county council in Buskerud for the Labor Party but later joined the Socialist Left Party due to opposition to Norwegian membership in the Common Market. Despite criticism over his wartime past, Hansen received broad support and served his full parliamentary term. Hansen married Laila Kaldestad in 1949, with whom he had three children, and later divorced her in 1977. He remarried Torild Skard, also a member of parliament.
