Maudine Ormsby

Maudine Ormsby was a Holstein cow who became the Homecoming Queen at Ohio State University in 1926. The election for Homecoming Queen that year was marred by irregularities, as 12,000 votes were cast despite only 10,000 students being enrolled. Rosalind Morrison initially won the election but withdrew upon discovering the fraud. Maudine, a mystery candidate nominated by the College of Agriculture and not an enrolled student, was then declared Homecoming Queen. She was crowned and participated in the homecoming parade but did not attend the dance held in her honor. Rosalind Morrison humorously remarked that her epitaph should read, "But for Maudine, here lies the queen," reflecting on the unusual circumstances. Maudine Ormsby remains a notable figure in Ohio State University history due to this unique and infamous prank.
