Meat EP

"Meat," Idles' second extended play (EP), was released on October 30, 2015. It follows a three-year gap since their previous release, *Welcome*, marking the longest interval between releases to date. The EP features four tracks and represents a shift in the band's musical direction, moving away from their original post-punk style toward pub rock and punk influences. This change is noted as an evolution compared to their earlier albums, *Brutalism* and *Joy as an Act of Resistance*, which were characterized by more elaborate orchestration.

In September 2014, the second track, "The Idles Chant," was premiered during BBC's Introducing the West session. This track was described as a departure from their post-punk roots, embracing a pub rock and punk tone. The EP's first single, "Queens," released a year prior to the EP's launch, garnered mixed reviews. Its music video, featuring a naked man eating hard-boiled eggs, was called "confusing and disturbing" by *Crack*, while others found it entertaining and indicative of a more punk-oriented sound.

After touring in Spring 2015, Idles re-recorded the tracks for "Meat," which was announced on October 2, 2015. Lead singer Joe Talbot reflected on the band's evolution, stating they were "better friends" with a more accomplished sound and heavier tone, noting improvements in their musical focus and execution.
