Penelope 1978 film

"Penelope," also known as "Penelopa," is a Slovak psychological drama film directed by Štefan Uher and released on January 20, 1978. The movie stars Božidara Turzonovová as Eva Kamenická, a restorer who travels to a village to repair frescoes of ancient myth heroines in a local castle. During her stay, she becomes drawn into the life of Mrs. Malovcová (Eva Kristínová), an elderly woman awaiting the return of her husband and son, who left for America two decades prior. Eva is inspired by Mrs. Malovcová's patience and faith, which she compares to the legendary Penelope from Greek mythology. This experience influences Eva's personal life; after forming a relationship with Viktor Kuzma (Michal Dočolomanský), the Secretary of the Municipal Committee, she decides to leave her daughter Mima behind and start a new life.

Directed by Štefan Uher, "Penelope" reunites him with frequent collaborators: screenwriter Alfonz Bednár and cinematographer Stanislav Szomolányi. The film explores themes of patience, faith, and personal transformation through its intricate plot and character-driven narrative.
