Roe Beck

Roe Beck, also known as the River Roe in its lower reaches, is a beck flowing through Cumbria, England, and is a tributary of the River Caldew, joining it near Gaitsgill south of Dalston. The total length, including Peel Gill, is 20.8 kilometres (12.9 mi), with a catchment area of 69 square kilometres (27 sq mi), which includes the River Ive, its major tributary. The beck's headwaters rise near Hardrigg Hall between Lamonby and Skelton, flowing northwest where it meets Peel Gill near Skelton Wood End. It continues to merge with Whale Gill and Cockley Beck as it passes Sowerby Row and Middlesceugh, turning northward to join the River Ive near Highbridge. Beyond this confluence, it is referred to as the River Roe, resuming a northwest direction before being joined by Bassen Brook. It then flows through Stockdalewath to meet the River Caldew near Gaitsgill. Hydrological data from a gauging station at Stockdalewath since 1999 shows the catchment area to the gauge is 63 square kilometres (24 sq mi), representing 91% of the total area. The highest recorded river level was on 8 January 2005, reaching 2.88 metres (9 ft 5 in) with a flow of 99 cubic metres per second (3,500 cu ft/s). The second-highest peak occurred on 18 May 2013 at 2.72 metres (8 ft 11 in) and 90 cubic metres per second (3,200 cu ft/s).
