Sabine Glacier
The Sabine Glacier is located on the Davis Coast of Graham Land, Antarctica, near the northwest coast between Wennersgaard Point and Cape Kater. It terminates at the sea and drains north into the Orléans Strait west of Cape Kater. The surrounding area includes Lanchester Bay to the west, Detroit Plateau to the south, and Charcot Bay to the east.
The glacier's name is derived from "Cape Sabine," a feature named by Captain Henry Foster in 1829, though its exact location remains unknown. The name honors Sir Edward Sabine (1788-1883), an English astronomer and geodesist who was involved in planning Foster's 1829 voyage.
The glacier features several notable geographical formations:
These features were mapped by German-British teams in 1996 and are named to honor historical and cultural connections, particularly to Bulgaria.
