Simon Donnelly

Simon Thomas Donnelly, born on 1 December 1974, is a Scottish professional football coach and former player who primarily played as a forward or wide midfielder. He began his career at Queen's Park before joining Celtic in 1993, where he made his league debut in the 1993–94 season and scored five goals in 12 appearances. Donnelly became a regular for Celtic over the next few seasons, reaching the peak of his scoring with 10 goals in the 1997–98 season as Celtic won the Scottish Premier Division and League Cup.

In July 1999, Donnelly moved to Sheffield Wednesday on a Bosman transfer, but his time there was disrupted by injuries. He returned to Scotland in 2003, joining St Johnstone, and later played for Dunfermline Athletic and Partick Thistle before retiring in 2011.

Donnelly earned ten caps for Scotland, debuting in 1996–97 and featuring in friendlies leading up to the 1998 World Cup. After retiring as a player, he transitioned into coaching, working as an assistant manager under Jackie McNamara at Partick Thistle, Dundee United, and York City, before later assisting Mark Wilson at Brechin City.

Donnelly grew up in Burnside, Rutherglen, attending Stonelaw High School. His father, Tom Donnelly, was also a footballer who played for Motherwell and East Stirlingshire before becoming a school teacher.

Throughout his career, Donnelly won the Scottish Premier Division with Celtic in 1997–98, along with two Scottish Cup titles and a runners-up position in the League Cup.
