Tom Lichtenberg

Thomas Lichtenberg (July 13, 1940 – May 26, 2013) was an American football player and coach known for his contributions to high school and college football. Born in Cincinnati, Ohio, he grew up in Lockland and later moved to Mason, where he coached his brothers Tim and Terry, both notable quarterbacks at Mason High School.

Lichtenberg began his coaching career as the first head coach at William Mason High School in 1962, building a successful program that won four league titles by 1970. He later coached at Purcell High School before transitioning to college coaching.

In his college coaching roles, he served as head coach at Morehead State University (1979–1980), the University of Maine (1989), and Ohio University (1990–1994). His overall college record was 26–59–3. He also worked as an assistant coach at prominent programs like Ohio State University and the University of Notre Dame.

Before his coaching career, Lichtenberg played football at the University of Louisville, earning three letters as a fullback and one in track. He earned a B.S. in health and physical education from Louisville (1962) and an M.Ed. in secondary administration from Xavier University (1966).

Lichtenberg married Sue Ann in 1963, and they had five children and twelve grandchildren. He passed away in 2013 due to cancer, leaving behind a legacy as a dedicated coach and educator.
