White Hall Alabama
White Hall is a town in Lowndes County, Alabama, named after a plantation destroyed by an 1882 tornado. Established in 1935 as a New Deal project under the Resettlement Administration during the Great Depression, it was created for African-Americans due to racial segregation and did not incorporate until 1979. The town is part of the Montgomery Metropolitan Statistical Area and covers an area of 15.5 square miles (40 km²), with a population of 858 at the 2010 census, down from 1,014 in 2000.
The 2000 census revealed that White Hall had a predominantly Black population (98.03%) and faced economic challenges, with 29.4% of families and 31.7% of the population living below the poverty line. The median household income was $18,158, and the per capita income was $10,062. Notable residents include Ben Wallace, an NBA basketball player.
