Ras Abu Fontas
Ras Abu Fontas is a coastal industrial area in Doha, near Al Wakrah Municipality, designated as a free economic zone starting in 2019. A 2010 survey showed its waters have an average depth of 2.75 meters, pH of 7.84, salinity of 49.61 psu, temperature around 22.51°C, and 26.13 mg/L of dissolved oxygen.
The Ras Abu Fontas A power station was inaugurated in 1977 with a capacity that later decreased to 497 MW by 2018. Ras Abu Fontas B started in the 1990s and had expansions (B1 in 2001, B2 later) increasing its capacity significantly.
Desalination began in 1981 with units expanding to higher capacities. Plants A1, A2, and A3 were added between 2015 and 2017, each increasing desalination capacity further. Ras Abu Fontas B and B2 also contributed additional desalination.
Transport-wise, the area has metro stations on the Red Line with specific bus services connecting them to nearby areas. Both stations have similar facilities like ATMs, prayer rooms, and restrooms.
