Jean-Louis Roumgas

Jean-Louis Roumégas, born on 6 June 1962 in Algiers, Algeria, is a French politician and educator. He grew up in Montpellier and Pyrénées-Orientales before enrolling at the Paul Valéry University Montpellier 3, where he studied philosophy and literature. He later became a teacher at the same university and remains involved in organizations advocating for children's rights.

Roumégas began his political career as an activist with the "House of the Third World" in Morocco, assisting political prisoners. In 1992, he joined the French Ecologist Movement and was elected as an ecological development councillor in 2001. He became a spokesperson for Europe Ecologie les Verts from 2008 to 2011.

Roumégas won his first National Assembly election in June 2012, representing the 1st district of Hérault with 50.1% of the vote. He served until 2017 but was defeated in the 2017 election, securing only 10.7% of the vote. In 2024, he ran again with the endorsement of the New Popular Front and regained his seat in the National Assembly.

Throughout his career, Roumégas has focused on ecological and economic initiatives to support regional development in Languedoc-Roussillon. He continues to serve as a municipal councillor in Montpellier and remains an active member of The Greens.
