Kristina Šmigun-Vähi is a former Estonian cross-country skier and politician born on February 23, 1977. She is Estonia's most successful female cross-country skier with two Olympic gold medals and one silver medal. Her Olympic achievements include gold medals in the 7.5 km + 7.5 km double pursuit and 10 km classical events at the 2006 Winter Olympics, making her the first Estonian woman to win a Winter Olympic medal. She also won a silver medal in the 10 km freestyle race at the 2010 Winter Olympics.

Šmigun-Vähi has earned six medals at the FIS Nordic World Ski Championships, including one gold, three silvers, and two bronzes. She retired from professional sports in 2010 to focus on her family but faced a Court of Arbitration for Sport hearing in 2016. Her personal life includes being the daughter of former cross-country skiers Rutt and Anatoli Šmigun, marriage to Kristjan-Thor Vähi, and two children. She missed the 2007–08 and 2008–09 seasons due to pregnancy.

In her skiing career, she achieved 16 World Cup victories and 50 podiums. Šmigun-Vähi was elected to the Estonian Parliament in 2019.
