M-62 Michigan highway
M-62 is an arc-shaped state trunkline highway in southwestern Michigan, running approximately 28+1/3 miles (45.6 km) from the Indiana state line near Granger, IN, north and west to M-140 in Eau Claire. It primarily serves Cass County communities, including Dowagiac and Cassopolis, while passing through Berrien County towards its endpoint.
The highway begins at the Indiana-Michigan border south of Edwardsburg, connecting with State Road 23 before running north through farmland to Edwardsburg. Here, it intersects US Highway 12 (US 12) and turns northeast toward Cassopolis. In this area, M-62 runs concurrently with M-60, passing Stone Lake before diverging into downtown Cassopolis. The route then turns west, crossing the Dowagiac River twice on its way to downtown Dowagiac.
In 2009, traffic volumes on M-62 varied significantly: a low of 2,246 vehicles on a section between Cassopolis and La Grange-Dowagiac, and a high of 9,088 vehicles near downtown Dowagiac. The highway merges with M-51 west into Berrien County, passing the Dowagiac Municipal Airport, before ending at M-140 in Eau Claire.
Originally formed by 1924, M-62's route was adjusted by 1925 for a more direct path and extended further north into Berrien County in 1930. In 1957, parts of the highway were transferred back to local control, altering its endpoint and ending its concurrency with M-140.
M-62's current routing has remained unchanged since the 1950s, with no sections listed on the National Highway System.
