State Road 356 in Indiana consists of two segments located in the southern part of the state. The western segment is approximately 10 miles long, starting at an intersection with State Road 57 in downtown Petersburg and traveling eastward. It passes through Alford, crosses Interstate 69 (I-69), and ends at a three-way junction with State Road 257 near Otwell.

The eastern segment, about 15 miles long, begins at a junction with U.S. Route 31 west of Vienna and travels eastward. It crosses the Louisville and Indiana Railroad, passes through Vienna, and then traverses farmland in Scott County. The road intersects State Road 3 before entering Lexington, where it briefly overlaps with State Road 203 downtown. Continuing east, SR 356 enters Jefferson County and ends at a three-way junction with State Road 62 near Hanover.

SR 356 was originally commissioned in 1932 between Lexington and State Road 62. By 1941, the route was extended west to U.S. Route 31 in Vienna, and the western segment between SR 57 and SR 257 was added. Both segments were paved around 1966.
