Leila Bennett
Leila Bennett (1892–1965) was an American actress known for her supporting roles in films and theater. Born on November 17, 1892, in Newark, New Jersey, she grew up in a working-class family with ties to the Christian Science Church. Her acting career began in 1919 when she joined the Harry Blaney Stock Company in Brooklyn and appeared in plays such as *Thunder*, *The First Year*, and *A Holy Terror*. She transitioned to films in 1931, starting with an uncredited role in *Gentleman's Fate*.
Bennett appeared in numerous films throughout the 1930s, often playing maids or comedic sidekicks. Notable roles included a maid opposite Marie Dressler and Myrna Loy in *Emma* (1932), a terrified maid in *Mark of the Vampire* (1935), and Edna Hopper in *Fury* (1936). She worked with various studios, including Warner Bros. and RKO Radio Pictures.
Bennett married Francis M. Keough in 1934, dividing her time between New York City and Florida until his death in 1945. She died on January 5, 1965, at age 72, in New York City. Her funeral was held at The Universal Chapel, and she was buried in Fairmount Cemetery in Newark, alongside her parents in Section F, Lot 157, Grave 3 rear.
