Los Stompers
Los Stompers are an Irish music group based in Barcelona, Spain, formed in 1997 after the breakup of The Stomping Clawhammers. Initially rooted in traditional Irish folk music, they have evolved into a unique sound referred to as the "Barcelona Irish Sound," blending elements of Catalan rumba, country, and other genres while incorporating instruments like the cajón, darbouka, trumpet, and tuba. The group aims to demystify traditional Irish music through their innovative approach and ironic perspective.
Their discography includes four albums: *Mezzy on Stage* (1998), recorded live in Barcelona; *Pub Friction* (1999), a studio album featuring collaborations with notable musicians; *Belmondo Café* (2001), which incorporated ska, ragga, and pop influences; and *Animal, Vegetable, Miserable* (2009), their fourth album produced by Andreu Hernandez. The band has undergone several lineup changes over the years, with members such as Alex Crichton, Dara Luskin, Frank McMahon, Colm Petit, and Brian O'Mahony contributing to their evolving sound.
Los Stompers have performed at prestigious festivals like the Skagen Festival in Denmark and toured extensively across Catalonia, Andorra, France, and Aragon. They have also engaged in side projects, including *Ded Grandad*, focused on American folk music, and *An Taisteal*, a music and dance show featuring Irish tap dancing group Celtic Caos. Their work has been well-received by Spanish press and radio, highlighting their fusion of traditional and contemporary styles.
