Pilipino FUNNY Komiks
Pilipino FUNNY Komiks is the oldest running comic book publication for children in Philippine comics history, first published on June 26, 1978, by Islas Filipinas Publishing Co., Inc. The fully colored comic featured contributions from notable cartoonists such as Bing Bam Bung by Larry Alcala, Planet Opdi Eyps by Roni Santiago, Superkat by Leandro S. Martinez, Batute by Rene Villaroman and Vic Geronimo, and Darmo Adarna by R.R. Marcelino, Joseph Christian Celerio, and Rey Arcilla. Later additions included Superdog (replacing Superkat) by Christian dela Cruz and Roni Escauriaga, and Niknok (replacing Batute) by Pat V. Reyes.
The comic encouraged reader participation through features like publishing children's drawings, photographs for the "Birthday ng mga Bida" section, and humorous anecdotes from parents in the "My Funny Child" pages. This broadened its readership to include adults as well. To cater to mature readers, additional sections were introduced, such as Fr. Ben Carreon’s jokes column, a vocabulary builder titled "Broaden Your Vocabulary," idiomatic expressions with meanings and examples, and biographies of outstanding Filipinos.
In the 1980s, Graphic Arts Service, Inc. (GASI) published similar comics like Bata Batuta Komiks and For Children Only Komiks, creating competition for Pilipino FUNNY Komiks.
