Rohtak Zoo
The Tilyar Mini Zoo in Rohtak, Haryana, India, is situated within the Tilyar Lake complex on Delhi Road. Established in 1987, it replaced smaller zoos across Haryana as part of a government initiative to improve animal facilities by 2001. The zoo features well-maintained enclosures for animals and aviaries for birds, along with visitor amenities such as walkways, gardens, watchtowers, cafes, and rest areas.
Among the species housed are various animals, reflecting Haryana's diverse wildlife. As of recent updates, Haryana has five tigers in captivity: two each at Mini Zoo, Bhiwani and Rohtak Zoo, and one at Pipali Zoo. Notable events include a baboon birth in 2003 at Pipali Zoo and several incidents involving tigers, including fatalities, in Bhiwani Zoo between 2011-2014. In 2019, Rohtak Zoo acquired two leopards, Varsha and Pawan.
The zoo also offers fishing opportunities for a fee of INR200. Additional information about Haryana's zoos includes Deer Park in Hisar, the oldest, and incidents involving tigers and visitors. Videos and travelogues of the zoo are available online but are not detailed here.
