The Saint-Laurent Nuclear Power Station is situated in the commune of Saint-Laurent-Nouan, Loir-et-Cher, on the Loire River, 28 km upstream from Blois and 30 km downstream from Orléans. The site features two operational pressurized water reactors (each 900MWe), which began operating in 1983 and are cooled by river water. Additionally, there are two decommissioned UNGG reactors that went into service in 1969 and 1971 but were shut down in April 1990 and June 1992. The site employs approximately 670 regular workers.
Several incidents have occurred at the plant:
The plant faced flood risks identified after the 1999 Blayais incident. Safety measures were reviewed, but plans for a flood wall were abandoned due to costs.
